A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That

I usually get called in by a client that has a specific job for me to help them with. It can range from organizing and decluttering to staging for a rental/sale or just wanting to move their furniture around for a different look.  Once we start working on a specific project it almost always leads to doing a few different jobs for the client.

I recently was asked to help someone prepare their house for a possible summer rental.  This was a dream client because she knew she needed to purge and to make space for a) storing their personal belongings and b) to give their renters space for their belongings.  Once we got started, we just kept going attacking all those tedious tasks that are daunting to do on your own.  It’s way more productive and fun to do it with someone else.  We accomplished a lot in a very short time.

We ended up:

Cleaning out and organizing his and her closets

Cleaning out a big room off the attic for them to move their belongings up to

Breaking down 2 coat closets and turning one in to a utility closet for the renters

Cleaning out a kitchen cabinet filled with vases and candles.  We all have way too many candles and vases right?

Then when it was all finished, we ended up moving around the living room furniture to make room for a sofa, a family heirloom that had just been given to my client.  The existing sofa and the 2 oversized chairs were down at one end of this massive room centered around the television and fireplace.  We moved it all away from that end, pulled up the large rug and centered it against the actual wall instead.  Now there was room for the other sofa and in the end the living room looks so much bigger and now has more seating.

Here are a few of the before and after pictures of the project.

We moved the runner that ran along the front windows and laid it behind the chairs.

MAKING ROOM OFF THE ATTIC FOR PERSONAL STORAGE.  DONATE! DONATE! DONATE!

Now everything can be taken up to this space and put on rolling racks or bins when its time for renters.  It’s smart to have a space with a door that can be locked.

Just by doing a few small projects around the house, you can really accomplish a lot.  It can give you great satisfaction but in the end, the most gratifying part of all of it is the big mound of donation items.
